## 5. Academic Monograph
Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is a vitamin C derivative with superior stability and transdermal absorption compared to vitamin C, functioning as a whitening ingredient.
This ingredient demonstrates melanogenesis inhibition through CREB-MITF signaling pathway suppression and synergistic activation of nicotinamide nucleotide transhydrogenase (NNT) gene expression.
In reactive oxygen species (ROS)-rich environments, it enables ROS-triggered release mechanisms to enhance antioxidant activity and promote wound healing.
When encapsulated in lyotropic liquid crystal nanoparticles, it achieves sustained release into skin, penetration through the stratum corneum to the dermis, tyrosinase activity inhibition, and reduced melanin production.
Combined with photoprotective formulations, it improves photoaged skin conditions by increasing skin hydration, dermis echogenicity, reducing hyperpigmentation, and enhancing epidermal cell renewal.
In combination with melatonin and bakuchiol within a 3-in-1 night serum, it demonstrates clinical and histological improvement in skin aging signs and significantly reduces UV-induced apoptotic sunburn cells.
Within the 3-in-1 serum formulation, it stimulates dermal protein synthesis including increased collagen I and III levels, procollagen type I precursor, and tropoelastin in dermal fibroblasts.
